Discontinuity project 1—Research trip in Bath

The teacher took us to the bath on Thursday. Our plan is to go to Victoria Museum and Melbourne Museum in the morning. Then I chose to go to other museums in the afternoon. We went to the Victoria museum first with our teacher. Most of the paintings in this museum are from the Victorian period in Britain to the First World War. A new middle class emerged during this period, and they were willing to spend money on art. So during this period British painting became diverse. The following two paintings are my favorite.

There is no special introduction to this painting in the museum, but I liked it at first sight. There are seven people in the picture, but one has a different skin color and is not as thin as the others. So I guess this person should be from the upper class, and the other six very thin people should be the poor. The details of this painting are very well handled, all colors are natural. And the painting is very realistic and fascinating.

I was shocked when I saw the painting. Because this painting is very realistic. There are also many details in the painting, such as chimneys covered by clouds, damaged boats, stone textures, and so on. When you first look at it, you don’t think he has many colors, but when you look closely, you will find that it is actually colorful. Because the author handles the colors very well, each color blends perfectly together.

Holbourne museum is completely different from Victoria museum. Here are basically the works of Grayson perry. He has been a transvestite since he was a child. He named his women’s clothing Claire and his childhood Alan Measles. Most of his works tell his own story. Here is his work.

When I first saw his work, I didn’t like it. Because his paintings are very weird, but I can understand why he has these works after reading his introduction. I like this work the most. In the middle of this painting, a man in a woman’s clothes raised his hands up. I think the man is the author himself. He should want to express that his behavior cannot be understood by others. People think of him as a freak. I think discrimination is wrong. We should understand everyone and respect everyone’s choices and behaviors.
